Best Time to Visit Mayapur: Weather and Festivals

The best time to visit Mayapur is from November to March, when the weather is cool and dry. In this guide, you will learn how the weather changes through the year, which festivals to plan around, and what to pack.
Best time to visit Mayapur by season
Mayapur has a warm and humid climate, so the season you choose changes your trip a lot. The notes below are general, and the weather can vary from year to year.
Winter, from November to February
Winter is the most comfortable season. Days are pleasant and nights are cool, so you can walk, attend the programs and join kirtan without discomfort. Therefore, most pilgrims plan their visit for this time. However, guest houses fill up quickly, so book early.
Summer, from March to June
Summer is hot and humid, and the heat can be strong in May and June. Nevertheless, the mornings are bearable, and the temple programs begin very early. If you travel in summer, carry water and a hat, and rest in the afternoon.
Monsoon, from July to September
The monsoon brings heavy rain and green fields. Also, the roads and ghats can be wet, and boat crossings may be delayed. However, the crowds are smaller, so the temple feels peaceful.
October
October is a time of change. The rain slows down, and the weather slowly turns pleasant. Moreover, the sacred month of Kartik begins around October or November, and many Vaishnavas offer special devotion in this month.
Festivals that shape the best time to visit Mayapur
Many devotees choose their dates by the festival calendar. For example, the Gaura Purnima festival is the biggest event of the year. It marks the appearance day of Lord Caitanya, and it is held every year in February or March. The festival season lasts for almost a month, and it includes the Kirtan Mela, the Navadvipa Mandala Parikrama and the grand Gaura Purnima celebration.
However, the festival brings very large crowds. Because of this, you should book your stay several months ahead and be ready for long queues at the temple. If you prefer a quiet visit, choose another week in winter.
Other festivals worth planning around include:
- Ratha Yatra, usually in June or July
- Janmashtami, usually in August or September
- Kartik month, around October and November
