A Tulsi Kanthi Mala with a Hand-Carved Narasimha Pendant, Made for a Returning Devotee

Some orders stay with us long after the parcel leaves Mayapur. This is one of them. A devotee who had bought a 27-bead Tulsi kanthi mala from us came back with a special request: a kanthi mala of fresh chunk Tulsi beads with a hand-carved Narasimha pendant at the centre.
A Returning Devotee’s Request
This time he wanted something more personal. In addition to the kanthi mala, he asked for a 27-bead Tulsi japa mala with 15 mm beads, so he could chant on the same Tulsi wherever he goes. In fact, requests like this are some of our favourite work, because each one starts with a short conversation and ends with something made just for one devotee.
How We Hand-Carved the Narasimha Pendant
We made the pendant from scratch, by hand, here in Sree Mayapur Dham. First, our craftsman carved the face of Lord Narasimha out of a plain round disc. Next, he cut the mane line by line around the face. Finally, he smoothed and finished the pendant so it was ready to string.

Lord Narasimha is the half-man, half-lion form of the Lord who protected His devotee Prahlada. For this reason, many Vaishnavas keep Narasimhadev close for protection on the path of bhakti. You can read more about Lord Narasimha.
Fresh Chunk Tulsi Beads
Chunk beads are cut larger than round beads, so each one keeps its own shape, grain and natural markings. As a result, no two beads look the same. We strung them by hand on either side of the pendant, so Narasimhadev sits at the centre of the mala.

A 27-Bead Tulsi Japa Mala to Go With It
Alongside the kanthi mala, we made his 27-bead Tulsi japa mala with 15 mm beads, knotted between each bead. A 27-bead mala is small and light, so it is easy to carry for chanting on the go. Four rounds on 27 beads make one full round of 108. Our guide to the 27-bead Tulsi mala for travel and temple visits explains how devotees use it.

Packed With Care in Mayapur
Once both malas were ready, we checked every bead and knot, then packed his parcel here in Mayapur. Moreover, it was a joy to make something for a devotee who trusted us a second time. Thank you, Prabhu, and may Lord Narasimhadev always protect you.
